Begonias and Pastry

Updated: Oct 9, 2019

During the September AGC meeting, members returned with their begonias which were voted on by the membership body. The winner was Wendy Bucchieri by popular vote, and our congratulations go to her for making such a beautiful planting out of the begonia she was given by the club this past spring. Many members returned with their begonia: some begonia alone, some planted with other plants, and one even as part of an adorable fairy garden! Several members stated they learned more about how to cause a begonia to thrive through the exercise.

Another highlight was the dessert table the ladies laid out - they outdid themselves this month. Linda McDevitt and Lynette Novick were the the coordinators, and the hostesses were Joann Rose and Betsy Habberfield. Several members raved about a certain danish, and we were able to track down the recipe that was made by Mrs. Joann Rose. The danish is a simple mixture of these ingredients and can be baked in around 30-35 minutes in a 375 degree oven; the recipe link for Delicious Almond Braids is at https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/delicious-almond-braids

Ingredients:

1 package (7 ounces) almond paste

1/2 cup butter

1/2 cup sugar

1 large egg

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

1 package (17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed

Glaze:

3/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon confectioners' sugar

2 tablespoons 2% milk

1/2 teaspoon almond extract

1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted

If you missed this treat, you will want to try it at home. It was delicious!
